Sharapat Kessler was born in Kazakhstan and grew up in its Central Asian nomadic culture. She currently resides and works in Washington, DC.

Sharapat is a multimedia artist and finds collage the most transformative form of her practice. Collage revives the vivid quilt-making memories from her childhood and makes her feel rooted in her heritage. Her method combines poetry, drawing, fabrics, and a variety of papers to create works of art that are grounded in imagination, literature, history, and Eurasian folklore. Sharapat's work has been seen at Brookside Gardens, the Carl M. Freeman Foundation, Corcoran Gallery of Art, The DC Arts Center, The Women's Club of Chevy Chase, Washington Studio School, and Yellow Barn Studio and Gallery. Her work can be found in private collections across the U.S., Europe, and Kazakhstan.
